Job Assignment Preliminary Due December 5th!

On the Job

Assignment-
You have been hired by a magazine to do a spread on a particular Job. Your
assignment is to research a job, learn about itʼs trials and tribulations, learn about what
equipment or technology is needed for this job. You are required to show two people
interacting around this job.

The Plan:
This illustration is about using our photo reference to create a situation in which two
characters are interacting in an environment with some kind of tool or device. The basis
for this is “The Job.” Students will have to get reference for people, research a job or
career and create a scenario using a combination of reference and sketches and notes
on a job.
For those students wishing to use this as an opportunity to do artwork in a
fantasy or science fiction or other fantastic setting I require the student to take a
real world “Job” and relate it to the new world you are creating. See the Illustration by Donato as reference for how this might be done.

You will need to get reference on the place and equipment that your job involves.

Do not : Make up backgrounds or equipment, uniforms or anything! I want reference for
every part of these illustrations. If you are doing Sci-Fi, use real world objects as
analogs for sci-fi stuff
Do not : Use google reference, you should be going deeper researching in library and
other resources.

If the job is something you can get access to the real place the job is done in( a
doctors office, a fast food restaurant, etc) and get some on the spot reference.
Due Next week: Develop at least five concept sketches for a realistic painting for The
Job. Sketches must be at least 8” X 10” in the ratio of 9.5 x 12 “ each mounted on a
single sheet of neutral colored presentation board. I want to see your research on the
Job you are illustrating as well as all your reference.

The final image for this is due on December 12th at Review.
