Objective: To gain a solid understanding of different techniques of using color with the medium of watercolor
Materials: Watercolor and brushes from equipment list,Arches watercolor block 10 x 14 hot press watercolor block or sheets of 140 lb arches a watercolor cut down to 10 x 14.
Size: Four images on 10 x 14 inch paper with a live art area of 9 x 12
Process:
Step 1: Photographs- You will take a photo of a local house near the University, You will photograph the house at four times: Sunrise, Noon, Twilight( just after the sun goes down) and at night. ( take multiple photos of each.) With your night photos, try to pick a clear night, keep your flash off and stay away from street lamps. What you are trying to capture is the colors of the night as closely as possible. Try to get the same angle each time although that is not necessary.
Step 2: You will create four watercolor paintings, one of each time of day. The goal is to be sensitive to the color changes that take place between each time of day. Try to include any trees and sky that appear in the image. Be sensitive to cropping your images to make an interesting image.
Grading: You will be graded on your ability to follow the assignment details, the quality of your photos,
quality of presentation, neatness and inventiveness of techniques.
