Assignment Name: Watercolor Assignment 2 Due Date: 3/24


Objective: To use watercolor to create a believable figure with a background and provide some story context. 

Materials: Watercolors, Watercolor paper 12 x 16” , .8.5 x 11 sketch paper,  Brushes etc.


Size:  1 10 x 14  inch piece of watercolor art with a 1inch border around the edges. 


Process:
  • Choose a character from a famous book of fiction( historical/science fiction/ fantasy any fictional genre) 
  • Create 20 thumbnail sketches in your sketchbook of the character in a background building that would be appropriate for the characters story.
  • Take photo reference for your character and background( If the scene is fantasy or sci fi and you need to be inventive, get models in costume and use photos of real buildings as an analogue for the fantasy building you want. 
  • 03/10 Bring in sketches and photo reference next week being prepared to begin a final pencil sketch in class. 
  • 03/17 three watercolor sketches on 8.5 x 11 copiesdue. 
  • Transfer final approved sketch to watercolor board/paper.
  • 03/24 Finished piece at week three. 


Make sure the subject matter is something you would like/are excited to paint!

Grading: You will be graded on your ability to follow the assignment, quality of presentation, neatness and inventiveness of techniques.
